  • ESV Daily Light on the Daily Path

UPDATE 9/30: Welcome ESV Blog Readers!

A couple of days ago, I emailed the webmaster over at Good News Publisher/Crossway Books about the availability of an RSS feed for the “Daily Light on the Daily Path” devotional they have available online (and in print). I’m happy to report that as of this morning, an RSS feed is now available.

How is that for awesome customer service? (Thank you, Stephen!)

I have absolutely loved reading the ESV Bible – because I can enjoy it online (via http://www.gnpcb.org/esv/) or offline (via my Reformation Study Bible or Classic Thinline).

Good News & Crossway has made accessing the Bible easy and convenient, and I sincerely thank them for that.

  • What the Flock?

Just read an article over at Wired.com about a new “social browser” called Flock that will be coming out soon. As Wired puts it, “it’s a clear attempt to be the browser of choice for the Web 2.0 user.”

Sounds pretty cool to me. I signed up to be notified when it becomes available, because I’m always looking to have a better browsing experience.

  • Microsoft Office 12 UI Unveiled

Closeup of Microsoft Word 12 UI

Microsoft just unveiled the new UI to Office 12, and I’ve got to say: it is a huge departure from previous interfaces.

The new UI – the most dramatic change to the way Office applications work since introduction of the toolbar in 1997 – will help users become more proficient with Office and produce better-looking documents faster.

I like the smooth look of the interface. Things are organized a lot better, though the area devoted to toolbars seems pretty tall… not really an issue with most people’s screens having higher resolutions these days. I love the shading and shadows… Nice work Microsoft… can’t wait to see more.

  • Bush Accepts Blame in Slow Response to Katrina

Breaking News on CNN.com: President Bush says he takes responsibility for the federal government’s failures in responding to Hurricane Katrina. Details soon.

It takes a real man to step up and admit to one’s mistakes – whether they are fully to blame or not. CNN just reported that President Bush is taking responsibility for the government’s failure in responding to Hurricane Katrina. Is this really government’s fault? I don’t think so.

The City of New Orleans and the State of Louisiana are responsible for this tragedy. Those governments failed to act in a timely manner. They gambled with the lives of their citizens by assuming the levees would hold and New Orleans would be safe. If anything, I think the Federal Government has bailed them both out by coming in like they have done. Sure, one could argue that the Federal government should have come in sooner. But if they didn’t, I can only say that it’s because the state didn’t request them to come in quickly enough.

Why isn’t anyone pointing fingers at the state and local governments in Louisiana? This is as much their fault as anyone else’s…

  • Switchfoot’s – Nothing is Sound

Album cover to Switchfoot's "Nothing is Sound"

I’ve been listening to a lot of Switchfoot lately. Their new album, Nothing is Sound, was released today. I downloaded it off of iTunes this morning.

I love songs like “Stars” and “The Blues”. I’m not sure I like it as much as their last album, “The Beautiful Letdown”, but I’m sure this album will grow on me as much as the last did.
