Not sure how this slipped under the radar, but on 11/18, Microsoft released ActiveSync 4.1 for synchronizing Windows Mobile devices with PCs. You can snag it here.

  • Apple Adds to the TV Show Lineup on ITMS

Break out the champagne, folks. Apple has finally added some new TV show offerings to the iTunes Music Store (ITMS) from NBC, USA, SciFi and Disney. You can now get episodes of The Office, Monk, Battlestar Galactica, The Tonight Show, Late Night with Conan O’Brien, Law & Order, and more. They’ve also added older shows, like Knight Rider, Adam 12, Dragnet, etc. I’m not keen on most, if not all, that’s been added, with the exception of maybe “Surface”… (but I’m not really all that into that show, so I don’t see myself downloading episodes). This is definitely a step in the right direction, but I don’t think I’ll be truly happy with the product offerings until I can get “My Name is Earl” and “Stargate” episodes off of the ITMS.

  • Back online.

It appears my issues with Blogger have been resolved (for the time being, anyway). I am continuing to investigate my options as far as what I might migrate the site to… But right now, I’m just happy to have this thing working again. I’ll post more later this evening.

  • IMail Server 2006 Announced

    Ipswitch IMail Server 2006

I mention this because a buddy of mine (Will) works for Ipswitch, and I really like where they are taking this new version of IMail. More info on this new release can be found here.

  • Flock has landed

Just got my grubby little hands on the Flock Developer Preview (0.4.8) and I gotta say… wow.

If I have time tomorrow, I will post screenshots. I like what I’m seeing so far. I’m not going to go so far as to say it’s a Firefox-killer or anything, but it’s definitely a great little browser.

More later. I promise. Now it’s time for bed.

    Really.

    No, I mean it.

  • Quicktime 7 Standalone Player

Apple Quicktime works on Macs AND PCs!

While checking out some of the new Movie Trailers over at Quicktime.com, I noticed Apple is now posting a link to a Quicktime 7 Standalone Player… Several of my friends have not upgraded to QT7 because Apple has bundled it with iTunes by default now. They’ll be happy to know, this is no longer the case.

So, if you’ve held off on upgrading to QT7, I urge you to reconsider… being able to watch MOV files that use the H.264 codec is more than reason enough to upgrade…

  • New Look Coming Next Week for Basecamp

Jason Fried posted a teaser screenshot of a new layout they’ll be rolling out for Basecamp in the Basecamp Forums. I’m liking it so far… This is also cool, because this marks the first time (that I can recall) where 37Signals made users aware of a change before they made it… Nice work guys!

  • Google, Comcast looking to invest in AOL?

    Oct 12, 2005 – By Kenneth Li

NEW YORK (Reuters) – Google Inc and Comcast Corp. are in discussions to buy a minority stake in Time Warner’s America Online, two sources close to the deal said on Wednesday.

A deal would create a formidable challenge to Yahoo Inc. and Microsoft Corp. , with whom AOL is also having separate discussions over a joint venture.

The combination would marry Time Warner’s trove of programming and Google’s popular search and e-mail services with Comcast’s high speed Internet portal and experience in cable video distribution and telecommunications.

Time Warner and Comcast declined comment. A Google spokesman declined comment on the talks, adding, “Google and AOL have a healthy global partnership and AOL remains a valued partner.”

One source warned that the discussions over a joint investment were still in its early stages and could fall apart.

  • Brief Observations on the Oct. 12 Apple Event

the new iMac G5John Gruber had a lot of interesting stuff to note aboot yesterday’s Apple Special Event:

    • The new iPods do not support FireWire. Not just no FireWire cables in the box; no FireWire, period. Such is the price of smaller and thinner, I suppose.
    • Highest capacity iPod is still 60 GB. There certainly exists a market of people who want larger capacity iPods (I know at least four people personally who can’t fit their entire libraries on a 60 GB drive … and I don’t have many friends), but I don’t think Apple sees this as a significant selling point. Thinner and lighter seems to be what Apple thinks will sell … and judging by the Nano’s popularity, they’re almost certainly right.
