  • WordPress 2.1.3 Released

An update to WordPress has been released for both the 2.1 and 2.0 branches. You can get the 2.1.3 release from here and the 2.0.10 release from here.

According to the WordPress announcement, these releases “include fixes for several publicly known minor XSS issues, one major XML-RPC issue, and a proactive full sweep of the WordPress codebase to protect against future problems.”

  • Permalinks

Permalinks on the site have been updated, thanks to this great tutorial and this ISAPI Filter from Dean Lee. The old link structures: http://cdharrison.com/index.php/%year%/%monthnum%/%day%/%postname%/ and http://cdharrison.com/index.php/%page%/ will still continue to function. (Amen!) But now, the index.php is no longer required in the URL. This has been one of the things that I have absolutely hated about my install of WordPress, and now, it’s a thing of the past.

Now I need to figure out why notifications aren’t being sent from my server…

  • Critical WordPress Update

I’ve been using WordPress for a while now, and this is the first time I’ve heard of a critical WordPress exploit… I just upgraded to 2.1.2 and I recommend you read the articles below and upgrade immediately!

Long story short: If you downloaded WordPress 2.1.1 within the past 3-4 days, your files may include a security exploit that was added by a cracker, and you should upgrade all of your files to 2.1.2 immediately.

  • Registration

I have had registration turned off for quite some time, partly because I had a spammer register as a Subscriber back when I first started using WordPress… After reconsidering it, I’ve decided to turn this feature back on. I know several folks like to comment here fairly often and here’s your chance to become a “Subscriber” on the site. If you’d like to become a subscriber, click here to register.

I may open up the site to allow some guest writers if there’s an interest. I tend to write about a lot of different things… and I’d be interested in opening things up a bit to get some more variation here.

  • Ella

Man, the WordPress developers have been busy little bees… I can’t wait to try the new version of WordPress (2.1) out. I’ve been tempted to try the Beta releases discussed on the developer’s list but hadn’t gotten around to installing it.

Well, I guess I’ll be doing some backups in the morning… and then a quick install of the new version. I’ll report back on how it is!

  • WordPress Dreamweaver Extension

This post is out-of-date. Since it’s release, a new WordPress Extension for Dreamweaver has come out called ThemeDreamer. It does all the things the Tagstention extension did and a lot more. Definitely check it out.

I’ve been comfortable coding HTML, CSS, etc. in Notepad for years, but I’ve grown to love Dreamweaver ever since I started working at PowerServe. Tonight, I ran across this Dreamweaver extension for WordPress that could make life a little bit easier for anyone who uses the popular blogging platform.

    Tagstention Toolbar for Dreamweaver

Right now, it appears the the extension is compatible with Dreamweaver 8 and Dreamweaver MX 2004. If you’re using an older version, it’s time to upgrade. Seriously.

There are several wizards for using tags with additional parameters they might accept. It’ll help with basic loops, inserting templates, supports Ultimate Tag Warrior, etc. It’s probably a safe bet that if you’re using Dreamweaver and using WordPress, it’s worth a try.

  • Changes Coming

I thought my issues with Blogger were over. They aren’t. I’m still getting Broken Pipeline errors when I try to publish. I got no response from Blogger. I guess this is to be expected from such a big company… especially one offering free applications.

After evaluating several blog applications, I have decided to make the switch over to MovableTypeWordPress. I’ll be working on migrating my existing content over to the new blog app in the coming weeks.

    Stay tuned…
