Pardon the mess…

Filed under Other on August 1st, 2008 by Chris

Just in case a torrent of posts comes through your RSS feed… I apologize for the inconvenience. I was playing around with trying to import Disqus comments into my site as regular comments… and they were imported as posts instead. As you can see, the experiment failed miserably.

I like Disqus, but dislike being locked in to them. I may risk losing 40 comments or so, but I’m close to disabling Disqus for good this time.

A gift from Zappos

Filed under Other, Personal on July 23rd, 2008 by Chris

I heart Zappos.comWhile browsing through Larry’s photos, I stumbled across one that had a Zappos shotglass in it. I asked Larry where he got it from, and he told me it was a giveaway at SXSW he had picked up.

So, I did the most logical thing and sent Zappos CEO, Tony Hsieh (@zappos) a tweet inquiring about how someone might be able to get a Zappos shotglass. He wrote back shortly thereafter asking for my address; that he’d send me some. And so I did.

Wrong Movie

See that guy over there? He doesn't belong in this movie.

“Psst… See that guy over there? He doesn’t belong in this movie.”
“But he played Han Solo.”
“I don’t care. Unless he’s got a frickin’ laser whip, he needs to get off of my dropship.”

Webmaster Jam Session ‘08

Filed under Other on May 6th, 2008 by Chris

I submitted my registration to attend the 2008 Webmaster Jam Session this October 3-4 in Atlanta, GA. I attended last year’s event in Dallas, TX and loved it. The fact that it’s so close to home made it a no-brainer for me to attend it again. This time, at least one or two coworkers will be coming along as well.

If you’re on the fence about going, let me put it to you this way: I got more out of this two-day conference than I have from other high-profile events I’ve attended. Last year’s event featured speakers such as Jared Spool, Molly Holzschlag, Michael Lopp and many more. Topics range from SEO, Typography, CSS, Usability, etc. Fact is, you’re bound to find more than a few sessions that will appeal to you. Oh, and did I mention that registration is only $199? Yeah. Seriously.

If you’re going, or thinking about going, let me know!

Jonathan Coulton, Paul and Storm
View Slideshow

Wyatt, Ian, Jenni and I made the trek to Atlanta, GA over the weekend to see Jonathan Coulton live at the Variety Playhouse. Paul and Storm were a great opening act, and Coulton did not disappoint. The show was three hours of geekiness, and I couldn’t be happier to have been in attendance. (Wyatt’s thoughts can be read here: Nerdfest 2008)

Prior to the show, we grabbed a quick dinner at Sweet Lime, a Thai and sushi restaurant located right down the street from the Variety Playhouse. I played it safe by getting Spicy Shrimp Rolls and California Rolls, but everyone seemed to enjoy what they ordered.

Wyatt, thanks for letting me tag along on your birthday outing. I had a fantastic time!
