I think it'll be a long time until they become mainstream. The average Joe wouldn't know to install Tails Export or Oomph or Operator to work with microformatted data, much less know what microformats are at all. Until browsers incorporate easy-to-use ways to find and use microformatted data, it'll remain a "toy" of the digerati. You’re absolutely right.
