CAUTION… Don’t read any further if you don’t like SPOILERS. Don’t say I didn’t warn ya.
Just got back from a midnight showing of Cloverfield. Gotta say… I loved the movie, but it felt like it ended sort of abruptly. (It’s only 84 or so minutes long.) There is so much going during the movie that time seemed to go by way to quickly. The whole thing was very surreal. The first-person camera brought you right into the action. At times, the jostling was nauseating, but it brought you that much closer to the action.
The crowd at the theater was larger than I had expected. The flick got a lot of laughs from the character “Hud”, who’s the flick’s main cameraman. His commentary injected a lot of humor in an otherwise messed up situation.
The flick left me with more questions than answers, but I guess I’m okay with that. Hell, I’ve stuck with Lost for three seasons, I guess I can forgive Cloverfield with leaving a lot unanswered. It did get me thinking though… I mean, monster movies are complete works of fantasy, but what if something like that were to happen to us? We’d be helpless.
Anyways, it’s worth checking out.
I must admit, I haven’t actually read past the first line of your post. I have plans to go see it tomorrow. I’m really curious to see what it is all about but not curious enough to read your spoilers…I’ll let you know what I think once I’ve had the chance to see it. I’ll plan on writing a short review on my site as well.
Honestly, I don’t reveal all that much… if anything at all. I put the disclaimer there solely because I didn’t want to inadvertently post something someone might not want to see. I loved the flick. And definitely would see it again. Not for $9.25 a ticket (which is what I paid to see it for last night…) but I’d see it again.
Hope you enjoy it.

Awesome .. I’ve been looking up reviews and info for this film, and it seems to be getting pretty solid ratings. And it’s really interesting that they’re promoting the film with the fallen Statue of Liberty..it definitely sets an undertone of the America being attacked..Maxim actually did a little bit on it.

You really didn’t give anything away. I guess I should have just read your post despite you unnecessary potential spoiler warning. I think it was a decent movie but one that may be better suited for Netflix rather than the $6.50 I paid for my ticket. On the other hand, it was nice to actually see the movie on the big screen and not wait till all of the hype died down. I’ve posted a quick summary of my thoughts over at my site:
