So long, CompUSA

Filed under Local, Technology on December 7th, 2007 by Chris Harrison

CompUSA logoIt was announced today that CompUSA will be closing all of its remaining 103 stores. While most people will celebrate this, given CompUSA’s less than stellar customer service, I mourn the news. See, in Augusta there aren’t many options for buying computer hardware. There are a few local computer shops, such as ComputerOne, and several big box stores like Wal-Mart, Best Buy, Target and Circuit City… but that’s it. Our only other option is to buy online. Goodbye, CompUSA.

I imagine there will be a store closing sale of some sort… but how good the deals will be is anyone’s guess…

I’m personally not surprised and somewhat glad they are closing… it will keep me from forgiving their crappy service and making the mistake or giving them another shot every few months.

The day or two wait to order something online will be half the headache shopping at that store was.

I guess I am lucky in that I never really had “bad service” when I went there. Usually I hooked up with the Small Business folks and they usually discounted anything I purchased from the store. I only placed one order online for in-store pickup, and never had problems…

Oh well… Amazon.com usually has better deals anyway. :)
