Good, I'm glad you noticed a speed difference. That's definitely what I was aiming for. And yeah, getting comments on older posts is nice, but a lot of times the information is old and out-dated... and new comments aren't really necessary. Case in point... I posted a blurb several months ago about "<a href="/2007/01/22/are-you-smarter-than-a-fifth-grader/" rel="nofollow">Are you smarter than a fifth grader?</a>" It's received 15 total comments, many of whom were left by people looking for information on how to get on the show. Anyways... more improvements ahead. Trying to make the best of Wordpress before switching. I have been testing out other platforms though. Textpattern, Expression Engine, MovableType, Habari... all look pretty promising. If I can't get Wordpress to perform better, that switch may come sooner rather than later.

I did in fact notice that the site loaded faster. I think you made a good call on timing out comments too. Textpattern has this built in to the feature set and I set it to time out comments after 6 weeks. It _definitely_ cuts down on comment spam and it keeps the conversation on your site always fresh. I'm sure you have experienced someone randomly finding one of your really really really old posts via a google search and then commenting on it. You have to go back and reread your own post because you forgot what you said ;) . I hate that.
