Microsoft Asking for IE8 Suggestions

Microsoft starts gathering IE 8 input – Microsoft has contacted a number of beta testers to seek input it will use to customize Internet Explorer (IE) 8, the next version of its Web browser. IE 8 is expected to ship 18 to 24 months after IE 7, which Microsoft released last fall, making Version 8.0 a 2008/2009 deliverable, if Microsoft sticks to reported plans. – Mary Jo Foley, ZDNet.com

Honestly, MS … just give it up. Let’s spend a little more time attempting to create a more efficient / secure OS and leave the browser wars to the other guys, eh?

I wish I could say that I concur, but Internet Explorer’s presence in the marketplace is one we’ve got to deal with. I do agree that they need to work on securing the operating system better… but the reality is … Windows is used more, and that’s why there are more holes uncovered in it… If OS X were the dominant operating system, we’d probably see more vulnerabilities discovered.

I for one thing that it’s a good thing MS is soliciting feedback this early in the game for IE8. The rested on their laurels with IE6 for far too long, and it will be nice to see development accelerated.

lol, it’s no biggie :) A lot of people feel a lot of resentment towards Microsoft. They set the internet behind 5 years by stopping development on IE. When they beat Netscape they stopped innovating.

Hopefully, Firefox and the other browsers gaining more share of the market will force Microsoft to get back into the game in a bigger way…
