Apple iPod nano (PRODUCT) Red™

Apple iPod nano (PRODUCT) Redâ„¢

So, the rumors were right… a red iPod nano was announced today. I must admit … I’m digging the color and I’m digging the fact that buying this limited edition iPod nano helps support the Global Fund to fight AIDS in Africa. For further information about the Global Fund and (RED), visit www.JOINRED.com.

I really think this campaign is a good idea, but I don’t think it’s all that could be done. Here’s an idea… instead of buying an iPod nano… why not send all of the money you planned on spending to support the cause? Just a thought… (I’m saying this mainly for my own, materialistic self… but if it applies to you as well, so be it.)

    Hi everyone.
What’s a good alternative to the iPod?
I’m wondering if any of you can recommend a good MP3 player that is comparable to the iPod but WITHOUT they hype and price tab to go with it. I was at the apple store a few days ago, and really liked the new 40GB or 80GB iPods that also show video, but was wondering if I could get the same kind of functionality without that hefty price tag.

  2. You’d be hard-pressed to find something like the iPod with the same ease of use, for less money. You might consider a Zune (http://www.zune.net) but there’s not going to be any cost savings there…

I will agree that materialism sucks…..but if you are going to buy an iPod or Razr or whatever anyway, then this is a pretty sweet deal. Buy what you wanted anyway and some of it goes to AIDS relief. I love the idea, but I also hope it feeds more awareness of the AIDS pandemic, rather then our lustful consumerism

  6. Agreed. I’d really like to see more businesses get in on stuff like this. People are going to buy stuff no matter what. It’d be great to have the purchases give back to support causes like RED.

It would be nice if on everything you bought, something could go to causes like this. I donate money anyway, but to have a constant stream of donations from everything I buy, that would be great.

I’m not suggesting something like a tax, that would ruin startups, but hey - if more big business can be moral, that would be really something good.

  10. I completely agree Richard. It would be great if more companies would engage in business practices like this. Consumers are going to buy stuff anyway. It’s a great bit of extra karma to know that at least your purchase could be helping others out.

On a side note, I did actually break down and buy this particular model for my wife to replace her aging iPod mini. The red nano is absolutely beautiful in person, and I would love to see Apple make more of their stuff RED in support of this cause.
