Windows 98 LogoIt’s a sad, sad day for fans of Windows 95/98/Me *gag*. Effective today, Microsoft will no longer support your antiquated operating system(s). Perhaps it’s time for an upgrade or possibly a switch?

End of support for Windows 98 and Windows Me - Effective July 11, 2006, Windows 98, Windows 98 Second Edition, and Windows Me (and their related components) will transition to a non-supported status. After this date, Microsoft will no longer provide any incident support options or security updates. Microsoft is not offering a custom support agreement for these products.

Well- I guess I can use this info to finally convince my mom to get a Mac. Either buy XP and continue to have security issues, or buy a Mac and join everyone else in trouble free computing. Thanks Chris.

Considering the fact that you can now buy a MacBook for $1099 and run Windows on it if you had to… I can’t really see any other options being out there for people. I wish I could say that the switch to Macs is painless… it’s not. It’s a completely different experience compared to what people are used to with XP. Kimhad a PowerBook G4 for around 4 years, and her main complaint with it was that there weren’t many games available for it, and/or many websites she went to weren’t Mac-compatible. That raises serious issues for a lot of users. Kim’s experience with her Mac drove our decision to buy her a PC laptop recently. While I wish we had gone with another Mac, I can understand her desire to have something that works with what she wants to work with…
