When and Where Versus Why

Filed under Faith, Personal on December 27th, 2005 by Chris

When and where you go to church is less as important as why you go to church. A church is just a building. The Bible tells us that … “For where two or three are gathered in my name, there am I among them.” (ESV, Matthew 18:20). God doesn’t care about when you go to church, or where you go to church, or even how you worship him. He only cares that He is in your heart, and that you love Him. You could meet with a friend to discuss Him, and He will be there. You could meet in a gym to worship Him, and He will be there.

I mention this because this argument has come up several times in my own life. I don’t care where you go to church, only that you go. I don’t care how you worship, only that you worship Him. I don’t care if you’re Baptist, Methodist, Catholic or Anglican. I don’t care if you only go to church on Sundays. Why is extremely important. If you’re going to church because you’re forced to, or just do it because others are, you’re heart isn’t in the right place. Go to church because you have a strong desire to become closer to God. Go to worship Him. Go for fellowship.
